Section 144 Enforced in Islamabad and Rawalpindi Ahead of PTI Protests

The administrations of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have imposed Section 144 to restrict gatherings following PTI’s announcement of protests outside Adiala Jail and the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Both cities will see a temporary ban on rallies, demonstrations, and public assemblies, with authorities warning of strict action against violations.

Restrictions in Islamabad

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration confirmed that Section 144 is now active across the capital.
Officials stated that:

  • No protests or public gatherings are allowed
  • Anyone attempting to hold rallies will face immediate action
  • The restrictions remain in place until further notice

Residents have been advised to avoid participating in any event that violates the ban.

Restrictions in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi’s District Administration also enforced Section 144, effective December 1–3.
The decision followed a District Intelligence Committee meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema.

Security has been tightened around Adiala Jail, and law enforcement agencies are on high alert.

The official notification confirms:

  • All processions and political gatherings are banned
  • Police will act against any attempt to disrupt order
  • The enforcement will remain active for three days

K-P Government Joins Planned Protest

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has directed all provincial assembly members to reach Islamabad.

Sources confirm the instruction was issued after a cabinet meeting. Afridi said that:

  • All MPAs must travel to Islamabad immediately
  • They will join the protest planned for tomorrow outside the IHC and Adiala Jail

Following the announcement, MPAs began travelling to Islamabad after their assembly session.

Background: CM Afridi’s Sit-In at Adiala Jail

Last week, CM Afridi ended a 15-hour sit-in at Factory Naka near Adiala Jail after negotiations failed to secure a meeting with the PTI founder.

Key points Afridi shared:

  • He has been denied permission eight times since taking office
  • Court orders allowing the meeting have not been implemented
  • PTI leaders and the founder’s family members were also restricted
  • He accused authorities of targeting Bushra Bibi and trying to “break” the party founder

Afridi said he will now approach the Islamabad High Court, stating:
“If courts can’t ensure compliance with their own orders, the situation will worsen.
