The 2026 edition will follow the same structure as the 2024 T20 World Cup, with 55 matches being played across eight venues—five in India and three in Sri Lanka. The defending champions, India, are one of the most successful nations in T20 World Cup history, having clinched the title twice. Alongside them, West Indies and England have also won two titles each.

Key Updates from Teams:

  • India will be missing the iconic duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who retired from T20Is following India’s victory in 2024. Suryakumar Yadav will take over the captaincy for India in the 2026 World Cup.
  • England has named Harry Brook as their captain for the tournament. The squad includes several players from their victorious 2022 campaign, including Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, and Phil Salt.
  • Australia, the 2021 champions, will be led by Mitchell Marsh, with a strong contingent of experienced players like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Tim David, despite some injury concerns.
  • South Africa has received a major boost with the return of Kagiso Rabada, who has been sidelined for over two months due to injury. Aiden Markram will captain the team for the second consecutive T20 World Cup.
  • Sri Lanka and Pakistan, both former champions, are yet to finalise their squads. The deadline for squad submissions is January 31, 2026.
