Ex President mamnoon hussain receives farewell guard of honor

Newly elected President Arif Alvi will swear in and take presidential oath tomorrow. Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar will administer the oath to him.

The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) candidate Dr Arif Alvi won the presidential election held on Sep 4 with 352 votes. Followed by PML-N backed candidate Maulana Fazlur Rehman who managed to secure 184. While Aitzaz Ahsan of the PPP bagged 124 votes.
A total of 1, 110 members of both houses of Parliament and four provincial assemblies cast their ballots in presidential election. The commission rejected 28 votes for some reasons as declared 1, 082 votes valid.
After members of the assembly elected him as president of the country, Mr Alvi stepped down from his seat in the National Assembly.
He had won the constituency NA-247 (Karachi, South-II) in the July 25 elections. With 91,020 votes defeating Syed Ali Zaman Jafferi of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan who could garner only 24,680 votes.

Mamnoon Hussain: A look at the profile.

According to the President House website, Mr Mamnoon entered the Pakistani politics with a missionary and reformative zeal in 1968. He joined Muslim League in Karachi and soon became Joint Secretary of the City Organization. He entered the national politics by joining Pakistan Muslim League (N) in 1993.

In view of his integrity and commitment, Pml(n) appointed him as the Finance Secretary of the Pml(n) Sindh. In 2001, They gave him the portfolio of the General Secretary of the PML-N, Sindh, and he continued in that office until 2005. His formidable stature as a veteran politician earned him the honour of the Acting President of the PML-N, Sindh. In recognition of his services for his party, they appointed him Senior Vice President (SVP) of the PML-N. And Member of the Central Executive Committee in 2005.  Also from 1997-98, the party appointed him Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sindh. In 1999, members elected him to the coveted position of the President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI).

June 1999, he went on to become the Governor of Sindh, but his term was cut short on October 12, 1999, when the PML-N government was removed in a military takeover. His credentials as a politician established when he became a political prisoner after raising his voice against the totalitarian regime of the then military dictator.

In a landslide victory, Mr Mamnoon Hussain was elected as the 12th President of Pakistan through his official nomination made by PML-N in 2013. He took the oath of office on September 09, 2013.
