6th September-The Defence Day of Pakistan is a reminiscent of the fact that valor and passion overcomes everything. On that day in 1965, Indian Army attacked Pakistan from seven different spots. Indian General was so confident of the strength of his army that he promised to have breakfast in Lahore Gymkhana. He didn’t know till then what he was getting his military into. He was not aware of the reality that whenever in the history of mankind, tangible force has got into fight with the one with greater passion. Despite of the lesser strength in numbers, the one with greater passion has always won. Indian Warlords didn’t know that the greatest passion of Muslims is to die in the name of Allah. This was the only purpose which they had in their minds.

Background of the War:

The frustration among Indian groups started in early 1965 when they lost a small scale battle at Run of Kutch. Due to continuous defeats in Sindh and Kashmir fronts, a large scale strike was held in 16th of August across the India. Indian Naval Chief addressed the India Parliament regarding the issue. He told that his men need a significant victory over Pakistanis to gain their confidence back. Under the immense pressure of military establishment, Lal Bahadur Shastri declared war on 24th of August. Indian Army entered on 6th of September in Lahore and different areas. However, the reply they got in return will be remembered by them till the day they live.

Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed who was awarded the highest military award Nishan-e-Haider guarded BRB Canal. They destroyed all its bridges except eight of them to delay the entrance of Indian forces in Lahore. Not just this, but there were many other fronts where Pakistani armed forces redefined the books of courage and valor. Chiwinda in Sialkot is one of them. This defence day is the reminder of all those soldiers who laid their life while defending their country. It is for those men, who overlooked the strength of enemy and gave all they had. This resulted into the greatest battle of tank which Pakistan won. More than 400 Indian tanks were destroyed.

Role of Pakistan Air force and Navy:

The story of courage for defence day is not limited to Pakistan Army. In fact, this was the war in which Pakistan Airforce and Navy rewrote the record books. When Indian forces tried to destroy Pakistan’s Air  bases, it was M.M.Alam who turned the whole face of war around. He destroyed five Indian planes and sent the message that number of guns and artillery never guarantees one’s success. In addition to defending their bases really well, Pakistan Airforce destroyed Indian Air-bases at Pathankot and Agra.

At the time of 1965 war, Pakistan Navy had just one sub-marine. It’s name was ‘Ghazi’. During the war, it not only defended the waters of Pakistan but also created a great havoc in Diwarka Naval Base of India. It must be noted here that wars are not won just on the basis of bravery of a nation’s men. It is the confidence and boosting that they get from their people which keep them going. Even when odds are against them as they had in the war of 1965.

Conclusion:

The Defence day of Pakistan is not just about Pakistani forces. Rather, it is the depiction of the passion, love, and support which Pakistani nation showed towards Pakistan Army. They were always ready to donate their blood, share their belongings whenever it was needed. Today, Pakistan is standing again at the cross-roads. It is facing difficulties in every stage of the world. However, that should not make us hopeless. Instead, these hard-times should remind us of the day when we beat the enemy which was many times greater than us. If we could do that, then we will definitely get over this time as well. All we need is a belief and unity like 1965.
