Assistant Commissioner Afzal Baki posted in Ziarat district of Balochistan and his son have been kidnapped.
According to the report, unidentified armed men kidnapped Assistant Commissioner Ziarat Muhammad Afzal Baki and his son at gunpoint in Zarzari, a recreational place in Ziarat district of Balochistan.
According to Deputy Commissioner Ziarat Zakaullah Durrani, the incident took place on Sunday when Afzal Baki was present with his family at a beautiful place in Zarzari for entertainment.
According to reports, armed men kidnapped Afzal Baki, his son, gunman and driver along with official vehicle, however, after going some distance, the kidnappers released Afzal Baki’s family and the gunman and driver were also released.
The accused then set the official vehicle of the Assistant Commissioner on fire, and reportedly took the kidnappers, Afzal Baki and his son, to the Khalifat Mountain.
Deputy Commissioner Zakaullah Durrani told Express News that security forces and Levies personnel have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation as soon as the incident was reported.
He said that all resources are being utilized for the safe recovery of the Assistant Commissioner and his son and investigations are underway on a multi-pronged basis.
This incident is the second incident of the abduction of an Assistant Commissioner in Balochistan in more than two months.
Earlier, Assistant Commissioner Tamp Muhammad Hanif Noorzai was also abducted on June 4, 2025, while going from Turbat to Quetta.
It may be recalled that this incident has raised serious questions about the security situation in a tourist destination like Ziarat, which is a center of attraction for tourists due to its natural beauty.
Locals have expressed concern over the incident and demanded immediate action from the authorities.
Officials say that security forces are actively searching for the suspects in the area and that Afzal Baqi and his son will be recovered soon. However, no group has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.
