LAHORE: Interior Ministry will grant parole to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, and son-in-law, Captain (retd) Safdar for Begum Kulsoom’s funeral, said sources at the Interior Ministry on Tuesday.

The three will be granted parole from the time of Begum Kulsoom’s funeral prayers till her burial, the sources said.

For parole to be granted, a request is necessary, they added.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s wife, Begum Kulsoom, passed away in London earlier today.

According to sources, the Sharif family has decided to bring back Begum Kulsoom’s body to Pakistan.

“She will be laid to rest in Pakistan,” the family sources said.

Begum Kulsoom was under treatment at London’s Harley Street Clinic since June 2017.

She went on a ventilator last night as her health deteriorated.

Begum Kulsoom suffered with lymphoma (throat) cancer in August 2017.

Earlier today, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shahbaz Sharif and her son, Hussain Nawaz, confirmed Kulsoom Nawaz death. The former first lady breathed her last at a clinic in London.

Sources at the clinic said she had developed a lungs problem again.

“She had been responding well without the ventilator until last night,” the sources said.

Doctors diagnosed begum Kulsoom with lymphoma (throat) cancer in August 2017. The former first lady was born in 1950. At the age of 21, she married former premier Nawaz Sharif in 1971.

In September 2017, Kulsoom Nawaz ran in NA 120 election against Dr Yasmin Rashid of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf. She won by a considerable amount and save the seat for PMLN. Before taking an oath, her health deteriorated due to throat cancer.

Shareefs shifted her to London for further treatment. During the dates of 2018 general elections, many news circulated about Kulsoom Nawaz death.

But Hussain Nawaz denied all rumours. He expressed his sorrow on the carelessness of the media without taking care of the family’s sentiments.
