It is often said that the true strength of a military lies in the passion of soldiers and not in the number of guns. This was the reason why Muslims won in Battle of Badr, and for the same reason in the war of 1965. It is these soldiers who are the backbone of the defense of any country. Sepoy Maqbool Hussain was one of them. Pakistan lost him today. He was very ill and admitted in Combined Military Hospital, Attock, where he had his last breaths. He was a living epitome of a passion which makes one bear the hardships for the sake of his country.

Captivity Days:

Sepoy Maqbool Hussain was from Azad Kashmir. in the war of 1965, he completed his mission successfully despite of getting injured. However, Indian Army caught him and made him prisoner of war. during captivity, Instead of treating him like a prisoner of war, Indian forces tortured him badly. They tried their best to make him speak and tell them the secrets of his motherland. However, all they got in return was the slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’. Maqbool Hussain was never going to utter anything against his country. So, they tortured him so badly that he lost his ability to speak for the rest of his life. He used to write Pakistan Zindabad on walls with his blood when his body started bleeding due to excessive torture.

Maqbool Hussain remained in Indian captivity for four decades. He had been declared as dead or lost by Pakistan Army as Indian Army had supplied no information about him. However, his case came forward in 2005 when his past records were brought back. He was released at Wagah border in 2005. He lost his senses due to inhumane torture of Indian forces during his captivity. Maqbool Hussain was awarded with Sitara-e-Jurat (Military). On Tuesday, ISPR declared the death of Sepoy Maqbool Hussain. His Namaz-e-Jinaza took place in Chaklala on Wednesday. Major Army and Government officials including Chief of Army Staff, General Qamar Bajwa attended the prayers and paid tribute to the late sepoy who lost everything he had for the sake of his country.
